It's the fact that they're destined to kill each other and they don't want to kill each other. I love that their sexuality or where they stand on the spectrum is not their struggle. ![]() It's a relationship nonetheless and I think all dynamics and relationships have their conflicts and their struggles. I think we just felt an utter responsibility to properly represent the fluidity that is these characters and their dynamic because although we may not see it often in film and television, these kind of relationships do exist and they are not as extraordinary as one might think. Imani Lewis: I think representation has been a vital part of why we are so in love with these characters and so in love with this story. Can you both speak on what it means to you to portray such a familiar relationship dynamic that in this case, so many more people can identify with? ![]() Screen Rant: The relationship between Calliope and Juliette resembles a Romeo and Juliette-type love story, though it involves two queer women. We get to see where her passions lie and I don't think that was something I expected to see when I first understood Calliope's character and to see how she behaves once she acknowledges what she's truly passionate about. What I wasn't expecting was to see things like compassion or things outside of her mission or what she's destined to do - things like compassion, empathy, and a gentleness - that allowed us to see the teenage girl in her. Imani Lewis: I think with Calliope, she comes into this story with this sureness of who she is and who she's destined to be. I do feel like audiences will be able to pick that up, but it's something that, as the actor, was unexpected for me to discover as I was filming it. Sarah Catherine Hook: I feel like they might have been able to see this, but there were hints of Juliette where she was kind of getting comfortable with being a vampire but then would feel a little bit bad about it. Is there anything that you developed in your characters that may not be evident to the audience the first time they watch? ![]() Your characters are so well developed over the course of the series. I thought it was so cool that she's made up of all these different characters in her family that make her this strong, dynamic character that she is. It was so awesome that even though she's the youngest and she's the only daughter in the family, I see so many of her brothers' and her parents' attributes that reside within her and I watch her channel them even in the moments when she's not around them. So I definitely found myself applying that to Calliope's character - that sense of independence and self-awareness. I grew up an only child, so I grew up with a certain sense of independence, and confidence, and sureness of self because I was always with myself. Imani Lewis: It was incredibly interesting. What was it like bringing that type of story to life? ![]() Hook is represented by Gersh and Luber Roklin Entertainment Ogg by APA and Luber Roklin.Imani, throughout the series, you struggle with trying to find your place within your family, and being the youngest, it's kind of hard because everyone does it better or they've done it first.
